SDU is an educational program designed to teach beginner through
advanced scrapbookers basic scrapbook theories and principles. There
are 10 classes in the main course work of SDU with each one being
one hour long. There are five theory classes that teach the principles
of scrapbooking and five project classes that focus on foundational
scrapbook techniques. SDU is not just for beginners. Scrapbookers
of all levels can gain information from this program. You can take
the classes in any sequence however we do recommend taking them in
order if at all possible. If you complete all 10 courses of SDU,
you then achieve graduate status. You will receive an official SDU
diploma from EK Success at our SDU graduation ceremony!
The cost of each theory class is $12 and each technique class is
$12.
The SDU Methods of Scrapbooking classes are more advanced and are
1.5 to 2 hours long.
Class Descriptions:
Scrapbook Basics
Learn the basics of scrapbooking. This class will orient the beginner
to the importance of the hobby of scrapbooking and start the foundation
for making a scrapbook.
Color
A working knowledge of color is a must for every scrapbooker. In
this class you will learn color theory as it relates to designing
scrapbook pages.
Matting
Matting is one of the most spectacular techniques for making photos
stand out on your scrapbook page. Enhancing a photo with a mat
adds interest and excitement to the image. In this class you will
learn many ways to mat a photo in order to create a well-designed
layout.
Tools of the Trade
There are many tools that can assist in making fantastic scrapbook
pages. Join this class to learn how tools can help you make a scrapbook
page. Which ones are most important and how to properly use them
will be discussed and demonstrated.
Stickers
In this class you will learn sticker techniques to get your stickers
out of your collection and on to your scrapbook pages. We will
create several projects from borders, to layering stickers, adding
dimension, cutting, trimming and more.
Journaling
Pictures cannot tell a story alone. This class will teach writing
basics that will assist in completing pages with meaningful journaling.
Your scrapbook can have a profound impact just by adding the right
words.
Lettering
Lettering on your scrapbook pages should be fun. In this class you
will learn how to relax and enjoy writing in your scrapbook. You'll
walk away with some great ideas and techniques.
Titles
The title is a critical element in layout design and can be perceived
by the reader in many ways simultaneously. Learn how to design
spectacular titles that will make amazing presentations on your
scrapbook pages.
Layout Design
In this class you will learn that photographs, journaling, titles,
enhancements, color, line, lettering and shape are the building
blocks of scrapbook design. You will learn how and when to use
these elements to create great pages. You will also learn principles
of design structure that will help you create strong layouts.
Punches
Punches are exciting tools that cut shapes from paper. In this class
you will learn how to maintain your punches, adhere punched pieces,
build shapes into images and create punch scenes.

SDU Methods of Scrapbooking - Patterned Paper
With the theory of color you learned in the SDU Color class, you
will learn about the parts that comprise the whole of patterned
paper. You’ll rely on the basic principles of color theory
as you consider how color and pattern work together to create a
harmonious scrapbook layout.
SDU Methods of Scrapbooking - Embellishments
In this class you will learn how to use embellishments to strengthen
a layout design and reinforce the content of the photos. You will
develop an ability to view a basic layout as a blank canvas for
your embellishing creativity. These fun little embellishments come
in many shapes and sizes, styles and colors, and can take a design
from plain to extraordinary.
SDU Methods of Scrapbooking - Shabby Chic
Mismatched, soft, worn, scratched, wrinkled, torn, sanded and imperfect
are all words to associated with the beautiful effects of Shabby
Chic designs. In this class, you will learn how to turn the long
established "Shabby Chic" interior design styles into
scrapbook techniques. Prepare yourself to distress paper, tear
photos, and turn memories into comfortable, practical designs straight
from your heart.
